What is encryption?

Encryption is the conversion of data into a form that cannot be easily understood by unauthorized people. Decryption is the process of converting encrypted data back into its original form, so it can be understood.

There are symmetric and asymmetric encryption techniques. In the first method, the sender and recipient use the same key. The second method uses 2 keys, a public one (Public Key), accessible to all, and a private one (Private Key), only known to the sender and recipient.

Asymmetric methods are regarded as more secure, because there is no need to transmit the key to the recipient. PGP is an asymmetric encryption method.
